"Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty. (Muslim) There is no doubt that in Islam, beauty is a very important characteristic but also a quality of the body and the heart. In a world where the criteria of beauty seem to change from year to year according to trends and people, nothing like a homecoming. Zoom on beauty according to the criteria of Islam.

How to be beautiful and Muslim or beautiful and Muslim at a time when beauty often rhymes with exhibitionism? Attract the eye, undress, wear a look sometimes a little too-much, is that the true beauty? In Islam, beautifying oneself is not a sin if one does it in art and the way of what is allowed. Let's see what it means to be beautiful or beautiful in Islam.

Physical beauty

Physical beauty is the beauty of the body. For the word previously quoted, "Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. (Muslim) Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya explains: "This hadith encompasses the beauty of clothing, subject of the hadith in question, but also encompasses, in view of the general scope of the subject, the beauty of everything.". Beauty, the fact of being well prepared is, for the man, a way to thank Allah "for its benefits" according to the sheikh. As proof, we can quote this hadeeth:

According to Abu al Ahwas Al Juchamî –may Allah accept him- "The Prophet saw me dressed in rags and said to me, "Do you possess any property?

I answered: Yes.

He said to me: What kind of good?

I said to him: All kinds of goods of which Allah has given me, camels, sheep ....

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to me, "Make the effects of the blessings and grace of Allah appear on you."

(Ahmad, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and An-Nassa-i)

There is also this verse: "It will make them meet splendour and joy, and reward them for what they have endured, giving them paradise and silk clothing." (Surat Al Insan verse 11). Beauty, silk, beautiful and prestigious fabrics will be a reward for believers.

Another element of beauty: the hair. If it's an awra for women, it's good that it's something beautiful and attractive. In this regard, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also said, "Let him who has hair honour them. (Abu Dawood no. 4163) It is therefore perfectly permissible and recommended to comb one's hair, to take care of one's hair and to embellish it from time to time in accordance with the hadith: "The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade us to do our hair except sometimes. (Abu Dawud no. 4159)

Getting ready, pampering yourself in a lawful setting is quite commendable in Islam. How not to quote the famous hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbas who said: "I love to beautify myself for my wife, in the same way that I like it to embellish myself for me, because Allah says: {And they have rights equivalent to their duties, in accordance with propriety}" (Al-Mughni 5/220). In the couple, the more beautiful the spouses are, the more the love shall arise, the attraction and the satisfaction between them. So yes, we must not neglect the beauty in the couple and this, even if children and the daily grind can lead to forgetfulness of self.

As for women, it is important to note that Islam offers them many secrets of natural beauty and sunnah. Among them: henna, musk, kohl or siwak, Sidr (jujube) or ghassoul to wash gently.

Blameworthy beauty and laudable beauty

Also, for the hadith "Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. (Muslim), in the Kitab al-Fawa'id, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya distinguishes 3 types of beauty with regard to the beauty of the appearance, the clothes and the accoutrement:

a) A praiseworthy beauty

b) A blameworthy beauty

c) A beauty that is neither praiseworthy nor blameworthy

a) The praiseworthy beauty: It is beauty that is made for Allah. It helps to obey Him and to do what He commands us. For example, there is the fact that the prophet Salalahu 'aleyi wa salam was preparing to receive delegations or the example of an armour worn during a battle. The aim being, in this case, to intimidate the enemy and to triumph over religion.

 b) The blameworthy beauty: It is the beauty that is not made for Allah but for this life here below, to acquire power. It is made of pride and boasting. It becomes the only ambition for many people and serves only to satisfy desires.

 c) The beauty which is neither praiseworthy nor blameworthy: it is simply that which does not fit into any of the two preceding categories.

The beauty of the heart

If physical beauty, taking care of yourself and being presentable outside or inside for the woman is important, we must not forget that the beauty of the heart is the most important according to this hadith: D ' after Abu Hurayrah may Allah be pleased with him, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "Allah does not look at your appearance and your property, but rather at your heart and your actions. (Muslim)

Al-'Outheymine said, "Spiritual beauty means excellence in religion and behaviour. On this subject, Allah says in the Qur'an, "O children of Adam! We have brought down on you clothes to hide your nakedness, as well as adornments ... But the garment of piety, that is better. (Surat al-A'raf verse 26). Piety is therefore the most important of all beauties. Ibn Khathir says about this verse: "And the habit of piety is faith in Allah and His fear and good works. And this is the best coat protecting the individual."

May Allah make us beautiful people according to Islam! Amin.
